Inflation in Jordan Increased by 5.23 percent

The consumer price index (inflation) in Jordan increased by 5.23 percent on an annual basis last October, compared to the same month in 2021.

According to data issued by the (government) Department of Statistics, the fuel, lighting, and transportation groups contributed to the rise, as well as rents, culture, entertainment, and health.

On a monthly basis, inflation increased by 2.9 percent compared to September 2022 prices.

Inflation rose during the first ten months of the year, by 4.14 percent, compared to the same period in 2021.

The Ministry of Finance expected inflation to rise in 2022 to 2.5 percent from 1.6 percent last year.

The International Monetary Fund's Regional Economic Prospects Report for the Middle East and Central Asia warned of global economic risks from supply chain shocks, the ongoing Ukrainian war, and inflation.
