Qatar is the First in the Arab World in the Global Food Security Index

Qatar ranked first among the Arab countries, and 24th globally in the Global Food Security Index for 2021, according to the report issued by the “Economist Intelligence” research unit of the British Economist magazine.

Qatar jumped 13 places at the global level, and ranked 24 globally in the list of 113 countries, after it was ranked 37 in the 2020 edition. The food security situation of the State of Qatar has greatly improved, according to the 2021 edition of the Global Food Security Index. Despite the significant increase in food prices worldwide due to the Corona pandemic, prices in Qatar remained relatively stable, due to the presence of advance plans for emergency and the existence of support programs for citizens.

Qatar has made clear steps towards achieving food security and self-sufficiency, as the local production of vegetables jumped to nearly 103,000 tons, equivalent to 41 percent of self-sufficiency, to reach 70 percent of local vegetables by 2023. The volume of production of milk and dairy products maintained the same levels as 2020, as it exceeded 106 percent, with a production volume of more than 230 thousand tons. As well as fresh poultry, whose production reached 28,000 tons last year, with a sufficiency rate of 124 percent.
