The Qatari Cabinet approved the draft general budget for the fiscal year 2022, a draft law approving the general budget, in addition to referring the total of the main sections and sectors of the draft budget and the draft law to the Shura Council for consideration.
The draft budget was proposed based on a set of foundations, including the adoption of the principle of medium-term planning for the general budget and obligating government agencies to set financial ceilings for the fiscal years 2022-2024. The focus was also on projects in the health and education sectors, completing projects related to hosting the World Cup (Qatar 2022), and continuing work to achieve development goals related to the National Development Strategy 2018-2022 and Qatar Vision 2030.
The general budget of 2021 achieved a surplus of 4.9 billion riyals ($1.3 billion) at the end of the first nine months of this year, compared to a deficit of 4.2 billion riyals in the same period last year, while the value of the surplus during the third quarter amounted to 900 million riyals, compared to a deficit by 2.7 billion riyals in the corresponding period of 2020. Noting that Qatar’s budget recorded revenues totaling 47 billion riyals, compared to expenses amounting to 46.1 billion riyals during the third quarter.
