The Moroccan Minister of Tourism and Air Transport, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, confirmed that “the tourism sector has been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as the number of tourist arrivals did not exceed 430,000 until the end of last March, a decrease of 78 percent compared to the same period of last year".
She explained that "tourism revenues did not exceed 5.3 billion dirhams (530 million dollars) during the first three months of the current year, a decrease of 69 percent compared to the same period in 2020." Pointing out that “air transport traffic in all Moroccan airports recorded at the end of last March a decrease of 70.16 percent compared to 2020, and by 73.90 percent compared to 2019.”
Minister Alaoui expected that this decrease in air traffic will continue from 2021 to 2023 and that air traffic will return in 2024 to the level it was in 2019.
Regarding the government's programs for the advancement of the tourism sector, the Moroccan minister pointed out that "the government has allocated a subsidy of 2000 dirhams (200 dollars) per month to employees working in tourism enterprises who are authorized in the National Social Security Fund."
