The Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry, H.E. Mohammed Al-Sager, held a virtual expanded meeting that included the Ambassador of the European Union Cristian Tudor and a number of EU ambassadors accredited to Kuwait: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovenia, and Sweden.
During the virtual meeting, the ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Kuwait and the European Union countries were discussed in light of the current conditions resulting from the Corona pandemic.
Al-Sager delivered a speech in which he revealed that the balance of Kuwaiti direct investments in the European Union doubled between 2013 and 2019 to reach $4.4 billion, and Kuwaitis' preference for European goods increased by 12 percent during the same period, with total imports from the EU reaching $7 billion in 2019. This is in addition to the remarkable developments in terms of services circulating between the European Union and Kuwait, pointing out that despite these encouraging indicators, it must be acknowledged that we are meeting at a really critical stage.
Al-Sager pointed out that the EU countries seek to move towards deepening the European Union’s relationship with the world in the most difficult times and the richest opportunity, stressing that “Kuwait encourages such ambition, which is undoubtedly based on the strong and close relationship between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
