UAE is 1st in the Arab World in Women Empowerment Index & 4th Globally in the Food Security Index

The World Bank has awarded the UAE the first place in the Middle East among the best performing countries in terms of empowering women and encouraging their participation in business fields.

According to the report, the UAE is one of 4 countries around the world in which women share no less than 50% of the seats in legislative institutions. It is also the only country in the Middle East and North Africa region to have paid paternity leave.

According to the World Bank, the UAE has initiated reforms in its laws to introduce legislation to ensure equality in salaries and compensation between women and men in the same positions.

The UAE received a score of 100 by fulfilling all requirements on the level of 5 of the sub-indicators to measure the level of women's empowerment, which are freedom of movement, wages, work environment, entrepreneurship and pensions.

In another context, the UAE ranked 42nd in the world in the Global Food Security Index for the year 2020, issued by the "Economist" magazine, in cooperation with the agricultural company "Cortiva", outperforming Bulgaria, Malaysia, Serbia, Thailand, Indonesia and Mexico. The UAE scored 68.3 points on the general classification index.

The UAE ranked fourth in the world in food quality and security, which takes into account a range of criteria, including food diversity, food control and the ability to store food safely, while it ranked 26th in food availability, which considers the criteria for adequacy of food supply and spending. On agricultural research and development projects, quality agricultural infrastructure, abundance of crop storage facilities and access to agricultural technology.
