A report issued by the International Labor Organization revealed the decline in wages around the world in the first half of the year 2020, in light of the outbreak of the "Covid-19" pandemic, while the pandemic is expected to constitute "very severe pressure" on wage levels in the near term.

The International Labor Organization has warned that the consequences of the epidemic will continue "in the long term", as the world has witnessed since September a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused more than 1.46 million deaths since the end of December 2019, which prompted several countries to imposing a total closure, which would harm their economies.

The organization’s report on global wages in the first half of this year showed a downward pressure on the level or growth rates of average wages in two-thirds of the countries for which recent data are available, indicating that in other countries, the average wages have increased artificially to a large extent, reflecting the widespread layoffs that affected low-wage workers.

The organization expects that the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis on the economy and jobs will lead to tremendous pressure pushing in the direction of low wages, calling for the adoption of appropriate and balanced policies at the level of wages, to be placed within the framework of an in-depth and comprehensive social dialogue for all parties "with the aim of" containing the effects of the crisis and supporting the economic recovery.

The organization’s report showed that the crisis does not affect men and women in a similarly, but rather affects women "in an unbalanced way."
