By the end of last month, the inflation rate in Sudan jumped to more than 7 percent, compared to what it was in last June.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the inflation rate last July recorded 143.78 percent, compared to 136.36 percent in June, an increase of 7.42 percent.
The agency attributed this rise to the rise in the prices of some components of the food and beverage group, such as bread, grains, oils and fats, meat and legumes, and the transportation group also increased, due to the high prices of domestic transportation tickets. The housing group is also due to the high prices of cooking gas, charcoal, firewood, various services related to housing, a set of household fixtures and equipment, and regular maintenance work for homes such as furniture, fixtures, carpets, environmental textiles, and electrical home appliances.
Urban inflation increased to 127.58 percent for the month of July, compared to 112.41 percent in June. As for the rate of inflation in rural areas, it remained stable, reaching 155.41 percent for the month of July, compared to 155.13 percent in June.
The monthly rate of change of the general price index decreased to 11.11 percent in July, compared to 15.96 percent in June.
These developments come after the government approved an amended budget, the most important of which is rationalizing fuel subsidies, increasing electricity tariffs, and raising the price of the customs dollar.
