The consumer price index (inflation) in Jordan increased during the first quarter of this year by 1.55 percent to reach 101.55 compared to 99.99 during the same period in the past 2019. According to the monthly report of the Governmental Statistics Department, the consumer price index for April of this year increased by 0.57 percent, reaching 101.05 compared to 100.47 for the same month last year.
On the monthly level, the general consumer price index for April of this year decreased by 0.98 percent, reaching 101.05 compared to 102.05 in March of the same year.
As for the basic index of consumer prices for April of this year, it reached 68.35 compared to 67.44 during the same month last year, registering an increase of 1.35 percent. On the cumulative level, the consumer price index for the first third of this year reached 68.27 compared to 67.44 compared to the same period last year, recording an increase of 1.23 percent. It is expected that the inflation rate will increase by more during the second quarter of this year due to the implications of the Corona crisis and the possibility of higher prices for basic materials, especially the ones imported from abroad.
