The Tunisian Central Bank Governor, Marouane Abassi, pointed out that "the rate of inflation decreased at the end of January, to less than 6 percent, for the first time in years", explaining that "the inflation rate did not exceed 5.8 percent, compared to 6 .1 percent in December 2019.”

Abassi pointed out that "the improvement of some sectors and economic activities performance, such as the tourism and agricultural sectors in addition to controlling imports have contributed well to controlling inflation, which represented one of the most important obstacles to development for successive governments."

He said: "The current monetary policy, which relied on raising the interest rate to reduce inflation has paid off, amid expectations of more control over inflation in order to improve the purchasing power of Tunisians."

The inflation rate stabilized at 6.7 percent during the past year, after it was at 7.3 percent in 2018.
