Lebanese Debt Raised to Reach $89.48 billion

The total Lebanese public debt increased by 2.39 billion dollars in November 2019, recording 89.48 billion dollars, up from 87.08 billion in the previous October, following the issuance of treasury bonds in foreign currency worth 3 billion dollars, instead of similar bonds that were worth $1.5 billion.

On an annual level, the total public debt increased, according to the statistics of the "Association of Banks in Lebanon", by 5.82 billion dollars, compared to the level in November 2018, which was then $83.66 billion.

In detail, the debt in Lebanese pounds increased 2.45% on a monthly basis, and 11.16% on an annual basis, to 55.91 billion dollars. At the other end, the foreign debt increased 3.25% on a monthly basis, and 0.62% on an annual basis, to reach $ 33.57 billion.

It should be noted that the banking sector's share of public debt shrank to 33.98% in November 2019, down from 36.16% in October.
