The World Bank Group issued a recent study which revealed that the United Arab Emirates achieved the second position among the best countries in the world on the level of reforms related to women's economic participation, as the UAE adopted 5 major reforms to enhance women's participation in business activities over the past years.
According to the World Bank, the UAE government has shown great commitment to removing legal obstacles facing the women's work. In 2005, it established the Emirates Gender Balance Council, and the Federal Council responsible for implementing the necessary initiatives to improve the level of women's representation in the public and private sectors.
The UAE has passed many reforms, the most prominent of which is the unification of the necessary measures to obtain a passport between men and women, lifting all restrictions on women's work, and granting her equality with men in many matters, including the working hours (to allow them evening work opportunities), and the availability of work in jobs exactly as men, and in the sectors in which she works herself.
The study indicated that the UAE has passed legislation to protect pregnant women from unfair dismissal, as well as legislation to protect women from harassment in the workplace.
