FDI Increase in Tunisia by 43%

The Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Investment Tunisia (FIPA), revealed that Tunisia has received at least 1.3 billion Tunisian dinars (about $400 million) of foreign direct investment in the first half of the current year, accounting for 43 percent of the projected external investment for 2019 is estimated at about three billion Tunisian dinars (about one billion dollars).

According to the agency, the foreign investment increased by 16.6 percent compared to the same period of last year and 36.2 percent compared to 2017. This increase is up to 40 percent, compared to the achievements in 2016.

The foreign investments in the services sector registered a decline of 34.7% and the investments in energy decreased by 6.9%. On the other hand, foreign investments in the industrial sector increased by at least 64.9% while the increase in agricultural activities decreased to 7.3% only.

Tunisia expects economic growth of about 3 percent during the fiscal year, but international financial structures such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank has lowered the growth horizon and has forecast that the growth will not exceed 2.8 percent.
