The Mauritanian Economy and Finance Minister, Mokhtar Ould Ajay said that the Mauritanian economy will begin to recover by the end of the first six months of 2019 and expects the growth to reach 6 percent by the end of this year." He also said that “the forecast at the beginning of the year is that the real economic growth rate will exceed 6 percent by the end of this year, a figure that confirms the economic recovery."
Agriculture is one of the most important sectors that contributed to the indicators that have been relied upon. The cultivated areas have increased especially in the field of irrigated crops and rice. The figures indicate that the refined areas amounted to 31 thousand hectares in the first half of this year, up from 16 thousand hectares three years ago.
Marine fishing revenues also contributed to the recovery of the Mauritanian economy after reaching high levels of $514 million, up from $480 million by the end of 2016. Exports of fish and other marine products also increased in the first half of this year to 423,000 tons, based on an annual comparison.
The country's foreign currency earnings rose from $80 million in the first half of 2016 to about $130 million in the first six months of this year.
