Both Republicans and Democrats sought to shift blame for Congress’s potential failure to extend government funding beyond the Tuesday midnight deadline. If Congress does not act, thousands of federal employees may be furloughed, a wide range of services disrupted, federal courts may close, and small business grants could be delayed.
