The French economy grew 0.3% in the second quarter, beating expectations, as a rebound in household spending supported the eurozone's second-largest economy. The 0.3% growth was better than the 0.1% GDP growth in the first quarter.
The French economy is suffering from relatively slow growth and pressures from a high deficit. Prime Minister François Bayrou wants to reduce the budget deficit from 5.4% of GDP this year to 4.6% in 2026, ultimately aiming to reach the European Union's 3% fiscal deficit limit by 2029.
