Data from Statistics Canada showed that the unemployment rate in Canada fell to 6.9 percent in June, driven by increased employment in wholesale and retail trade, health care, and social assistance.

According to the data, the economy added 83,100 new jobs in June—the first net increase since January—with most of the growth in part‑time positions.

This report comes ahead of the Bank of Canada’s forthcoming monetary‑policy decision, where the positive unemployment and jobs figures are expected to prompt the bank to keep the interest rate unchanged.
