The U.S. Treasury Department revealed that American customs‑duty revenues have exceeded the $100 billion threshold for the first time since President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on many trading partners last April, amid expectations that the figure will reach $300 billion by year‑end.
The federal budget posted an unexpected surplus of $27 billion in June, a marked shift from a deficit of $71 billion in the same month of 2024. During the first nine months of the U.S. fiscal year, the deficit increased by $64 billion to reach $1.400 trillion, compared with a little over $1.300 trillion a year earlier—an increase of 6 percent.
