The Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum was held in the Syrian capital, Damascus, where the reconstruction of Syria and the strengthening of economic and investment cooperation were the most prominent titles of the joint Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum and Exhibition.

On the sidelines of the forum, talks were held between the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, which dealt with enhancing the prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries and laying new foundations for expanding trade and investment relations. The meeting also discussed trade exchange, transport and shipping, logistics, industry, agriculture, banks and food industries.

The Chairman of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Commerce, Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, stressed that the Jordanian commercial and service sector seeks to enhance cooperation with Syria through investment partnerships in vital sectors that serve the interests of the two countries. He pointed to the study of forming a joint Jordanian-Syrian business council, in addition to preparing to organize an economic business forum in the capital Amman during the next phase, with the aim of consolidating a new phase of economic cooperation and enhancing the role of the private sector in this path.Hajj Tawfiq revealed that the volume of trade exchange between Jordan and Syria exceeded half a billion dollars before 2011, but it declined significantly during the past years, as a result of sanctions, as it did not exceed in the past two years the barrier of 100 million dinars, stressing the need to make intensive efforts to restore the trade momentum between the two countries.

For his part, the President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, Alaa Al-Ali, stressed the importance of reevaluating the partnership agreements between Jordan and Syria, especially after the lifting of international sanctions, which opens the way for a new phase of economic cooperation, with a focus on enhancing mutual investment opportunities.
