New data from the Mastercard Institute for Economics reveals some surprises on the global travel map for summer 2025. Asian cities dominate the list of fastest-growing destinations, while Egypt boasts a notable presence with two coastal cities among the top 15 emerging summer destinations.
The Japanese capital, Tokyo, topped the list of fastest-growing destinations in flight bookings for summer 2025, followed by Osaka. Of the 15 emerging summer destinations, eight were Asian, including Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, and Singapore, in addition to Nha Trang in Vietnam and Fukuoka in Japan. Paris, which ranked third, saw a relative decline in demand due to its hosting of the 2024 Summer Olympics, prompting some travelers to avoid crowds and high prices.
