UK Inflation Rises Higher Than Expected

The UK's inflation rate rose sharply in January to 3 percent, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics.

Britain's consumer price index fell to a lower-than-expected 2.5 percent in December, as core price growth slowed further.

Core inflation, which excludes the most volatile energy, food, and tobacco prices, rose 3.7 percent in the twelve months to January, up from 3.2 percent in the previous month and the highest rate since April 2024. According to the Office for National Statistics, the annual basic service rate rose from 4.4 percent to 5.0 percent.
