Union of Arab Chambers Participates In the Regional Capacity-Building Workshop on Financing the Transformation of Agri-Food Systems

The Union of Arab Chambers participated in the "Regional Capacity Building Workshop on Financing the Transformation of Agri-Food Systems" hosted by the Tunisian capital, Tunis, during the period January 20-23, 2025, under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The workshop aimed to highlight the problem of under-financing in Agri-Food systems in the Near East and North Africa region, focusing on innovative solutions to bridge the financial gap and achieve a radical transformation in regional food systems. This will be done with the participation of a group of experts, stakeholders, and change-makers to develop practical strategies to achieve the second goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on eliminating hunger and promoting sustainable agriculture.

The workshop included discussions and practical exercises aimed at developing investable projects to transform agri-food systems in a way that contributes to enhancing food security in the region.

Dr. Najwa Zhar, Sustainable Development Expert at the Union of Arab Chambers, participated in the interactive session of the workshop, where she discussed the vital role of the private sector in transforming agri-food systems in the Arab region. In her speech, she noted the importance of the private sector in driving innovation, strengthening market links, and developing sustainable practices, which contributes to enhancing food security, economic development, and resilience in the agricultural sector. She pointed out the need to enhance cooperation between all concerned parties, create supportive political environments, and devise financing solutions that contribute to accelerating the transformation of agricultural food systems in the region.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors, and the use of innovative financing solutions such as blended financing and green bonds to achieve a sustainable transformation in agri-food systems.
