The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the United Nations Development Program for Arab States, Dr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, revealed that the preliminary estimates indicate that the Syrian economy has lost 24 years of human development.

GDP fell significantly from $62 billion in 2010 to just $8 billion in 2023. The poverty rate rose from about 12 percent in 2010 to more than 90 percent. The food poverty rate now exceeds 65 percent of the population.

Al-Dardari explained that Syria is facing a difficult stage, as estimates show that out of 5 million and 500 thousand housing units, about two million housing units have been completely or partially destroyed.
