The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt revealed that the unemployment rate rose to 6.7 percent in the third quarter of 2024, an increase of 0.2% quarter-on-quarter, compared to 6.5 percent in the second quarter.
Last August, government data revealed that the unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2024 fell to 6.5 percent, down 0.2 percent from the previous quarter.
The data showed that the size of the labor force recorded 32.218 million individuals compared to 31.423 million during the previous quarter, an increase of 2.5%. The size of the labor force reached 26.432 million individuals for males while for females reached 5.786 million individuals, due to the increase in the number of workers by 694 thousand workers during the current quarter compared to the previous quarter, and the increase in the unemployed by 101 thousand unemployed, which led to an increase in the labor force by 795 thousand individuals.
