Morocco's High Commission for Planning revealed that the unemployment rate rose to 13.6% in the third quarter of this year, compared to 13.5% last year, in light of the continued loss of jobs in the agricultural sector due to drought.

The high unemployment rate comes as a result of the increase in the number of active population looking for job opportunities at a rate that exceeds the number of jobs created, with the total number of new workers reaching 271,000, while the number of new jobs did not exceed 213,000.

The number of unemployed people in the country reached 1.63 million by September. The unemployment rate was higher among young people, at 39.5 percent, while among graduates it stood at 19.8 percent, and among women, it rose to 20.8 percent.
