In 2022, Qatar's economy achieved unprecedented growth, reaching 4.8 percent, driven by services sector activities related to the FIFA World Cup, which Qatar hosted for the first time in the region, during November and December 2022.
Real GDP grew by 2.7 percent in the fourth quarter, up 8 percent from the same period in 2021, according to the TRA's annual report.
According to official figures, Qatar's direct financial revenues from the World Cup organization are estimated at 8 billion riyals ($ 2.1 billion). In contrast, long-term economic returns, during the period from 2022 to 2035, are estimated at 9.9 billion riyals, amid high tourism revenues.
