IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said, "The current escalation in Gaza threatens to destroy economic activity in the region."

"The channels of impact in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan are already clear, as they are countries dependent on tourism and fog that negatively affect tourists," she said.

"We are concerned primarily because of the status of this war and the tragic loss of life but also because of the destruction and reduction of economic activity."

"What is happening in the Middle East comes at a time of slowing growth, interest rates are high and the cost of debt servicing is increasing due to COVID-19 and the war," the IMF Managing Director explained."
