As the U.S. government shutdown draws closer and closer, federal contractors, including billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX, and providers of guard services for local federal buildings, are poised to lose up to $1.9 billion a day in revenue as government funding stops on Oct. 1 if a budget deal is not reached.
The government shutdown also means 1.3 million active-duty military personnel and another 2 million civilian federal workers will not receive their salaries throughout the shutdown.
