E-commerce giant Amazon has joined the front of Chinese entities in creating its own generative AI models to tighten competition with Microsoft-led Silicon Valley companies. The U.S. company plans to invest about $4 billion in Anthropic, becoming a key player in Chatbots and expressing confidence in the intriguing startup.
Under the deal, Anthropic will move most of its software to Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers, and will use the cloud computing company's chips to train the models it uses to run chatbots and other applications. Besides accessing Amazon's computing power, Anthropic will receive funding that will help it pay for the huge costs required to train and operate massive AI models.
