Alphabet Group's Google is looking for suppliers in India to assemble its Pixel smartphones, following in the footsteps of rival Apple, which entered Asia's second largest market weeks ago.
Google began early talks with several companies, including Lava International, as well as the Indian unit Bharat FIH, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies Group. These discussions in India confirm the company's plans to move production beyond China and Vietnam.
If successful, Google will be the latest global tech player to move production to India, where potential partners, touted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will win so-called "production-related fiscal incentives," which will boost local manufacturing.
