Qatari banking sector assets increased by 3.3 percent

The QNB Group report showed that the total assets of the banking sector in Qatar in December 2022 increased by 3.3% compared to the previous month (up from 4.2% in 2022) to reach QAR 1.905 trillion. Total loans to the banking sector in Qatar increased by 2.7% compared to the previous month (up 3.3% in 2022) and deposits increased by 4.3% compared to the previous month (2.6% in 2022) in December 2022. Credit also increased by 5.9% and 2.1% on the respectively on a monthly basis in December). But with deposits up 4.3 percent in December, the loan-to-deposit ratio fell to 125.7 percent from 127.6 percent in November 2022.

The total loan portfolio increased by 2.7 percent. Total public sector loans also increased by 5.9 percent month-on-month (-1.4 percent in 2022). The government sector (which accounts for about 31% of public sector loans) recorded an increase of 9.5 percent compared to the previous month (-18.4% in 2022), while the loan portfolio of the government institutions sector (which constitutes about 64% of public sector loans) increased by 5.0% per month (9.7% in 2022). However, the semi-government sector decreased by 3.4 percent compared to the previous month (-2.3 percent in 2022). Domestic private sector loans increased by 2.1% compared to the previous month (7.4% in 2022).
