The annual inflation rate in Tunisia rose for the second consecutive month, last November, to 6.4 percent, up from 6.3 percent in the previous month. The Tunisian Institute of Statistics (governmental) attributed the rise to the increase in the prices of transport materials and services from 4.9 percent in October to 5.4 percent in November, coinciding with the rise in the prices of crude oil and its derivatives.
The prices of educational materials and services group rose from 7.8 percent in October to 9.1 percent in November; While food prices recorded a slight decline to 6.9 percent last November, down from 7.0 percent in October. Consumer prices were stable at 6.2 percent during the period of last September and August.
The inflation rate, excluding energy and nutrition, recorded an annual increase of 6.5 percent, compared to 6.3 percent in October. In addition to the rise in consumer prices globally, Tunisia has faced during the past months a confusion in the local markets, prompting Tunisian President Kais Saied to threaten the manipulators in the prices of commodities and their monopolists with penalties.
