Significant Improvement in Jordan's Domestic Revenues

The Jordanian Ministry of Finance revealed that the domestic revenues improved significantly during the first five months of this year, as they rose by about 848.9 million dinars (about 1.18 billion dollars), or 38%, compared to the same period last year.

According to the ministry, the increase is due to the improvement in the collection of tax revenues, which rose by 540.9 million dinars, and non-tax revenues, which rose by 308 million dinars, compared to the same period of the previous year.

With regard to the public expenditures, it increased by 345 million dinars, or 10 percent, compared to the same period of the previous year, as a result of the government's re-disbursement of bonuses and incentives to public sector employees and the armed forces and an increase in capital spending, as current expenditures rose by 6.8 percent, compared with the same period last year, capital expenditures increased by 77.8% compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, the total foreign reserves of the Central Bank of Jordan at the end of the first half of this year amounted to 11.01 billion dinars, compared to 11.28 billion dinars at the end of last year. Thus, the amount of decline in the balance of foreign reserves in the Kingdom during the first half of this year is 276.8 million dinars, or 2.5 percent.
