Qatar ranked 17th globally in the Competitiveness Index, among 64 countries, most of which are developed countries, according to the Global Competitiveness Report for 2021, which is issued annually by the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland.

The assessment of competitiveness is based on a set of data and indicators that are provided at the local level, in addition to the results of a survey of a sample of company managers and businessmen on the business environment and the competitiveness of the economy. The axes in which Qatar ranked advanced in the report included the economic performance axis where it ranked 11, and the governmental efficiency axis where it ranked the 6th, the efficiency of the business sector where it ranked 15th, while it maintained the 40th rank in the infrastructure axis.

The ranking was positively affected in the various axes as a result of a number of factors, including the low unemployment rate, which came in the first place according to this indicator, the policy of the Central Bank (the second rank), transparency (the third rank), and entrepreneurship (the third rank). While other factors negatively affected the ranking in some axes, including start-up procedures (54th), the concentration of exports by product (63rd), and renewable energies (64th).
