Qatar Central Bank data showed a decline in the total reserve money in the banking system at the end of April to 101.8 billion riyals (27.9 billion dollars), an annual rate of 8.9 percent, compared to 110.6 billion riyals during the same month in 2020, while it decreased by 2.73 billion riyals than it was in last March.
Reserve money constitutes 49.5 percent of the bank's cash reserves, which amounted to about 205.05 billion riyals during the past month.
Reserve money consists of four components: the issued cash, which decreased at an annual rate of 1.4 percent, to reach the level of 24.82 billion riyals, while it was at 26.29 billion riyals last March. As for the reserve requirement, it rose on a monthly basis, by 1.15 billion riyals, to the level of 42.24 billion riyals, and thus the reserve requirement ratio of reserve money rose in April to 41.5 percent compared to 39.3 percent in March.
In addition, the surplus reserve balances, which are deposited by banks with the Central Bank, increased by 970 million riyals to reach 10.37 billion riyals, as it is less than its level a year ago by about 8.5 billion riyals.
