Data released by the Oman Center for Statistics and Information showed that the inflation rate in the Sultanate decreased by 1.57 percent in January, compared to the same month of 2020.
The center attributed the decrease in the price index during the past month, compared to the same month of 2020, to the decrease in the prices of major groups, such as the transportation group by 6.87 percent, the food and non-alcoholic beverages group by 0.75 percent, the clothing and shoes group by 0.72 percent, and the restaurants group and hotels by 0.36 percent, the group of furniture and household appliances and equipment, and regular household maintenance by 0.11 percent, and the communications group by 0.04 percent.
According to the center, the prices of the various personal goods and services group increased by 1.27 percent, the culture and entertainment group by 0.67 percent, the education group by 0.08 percent, and the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.05 percent, while inflation stabilized over the past month without change in the groups of tobacco and health. The general consumer price index rose during the past month by 0.01 percent, compared to last December.
