The High Planning Commission expects that Morocco's economy will grow 4.6 percent in 2021, after shrinking 7 percent last year, assuming average rates of precipitation.

The unemployment rate in Morocco rose last year to 11.9 percent from 9.2 percent in 2019, according to the delegation, which attributed the rise to the dual impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and drought.

Agricultural income hinges on fluctuating rainfall levels in semi-arid Morocco, prompting more rural residents to seek employment in urban areas.

According to the commission, while the countryside lost 295,000 jobs last year, cities lost 137,000. Indicating that the number of unemployed people in Morocco reached in 2020, about 1.42 million.

The informal economy accounts for 20 percent of Morocco's non-agricultural GDP. The unemployment rate among residents between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four increased to 31.2 percent.
