The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Global Compact have launched the "COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility", which is a global initiative that aims to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors to help local communities recover better from the epidemic.
Commenting on the initiative, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, the Chairman of Qatar Chamber and President of ICC (Qatar) indicated that “the inauguration of the COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility is an important step for engaging the private sector in the global efforts made to fight this epidemic and reducing its effects on the global economy," noting that "this facility aims to strengthen cooperation between United Nations organizations and the public and private sectors in countries to help their local communities recover better from the epidemic, stressing that it will also help companies to mitigate the repercussions of this virus on business."
For his part, Achim Steiner, the Director of the UNDP, explained that "solidarity for a better recovery can enhance collective efforts not only to deal with the crisis but to overcome it", pointing out that the impact of the United Nations Development Program affects 170 countries, in addition to the United Nations Global Compact includes more than 10,000 companies and 68 local networks around the world, in addition to the International Chamber of Commerce that includes more than 45 million companies, which would contribute to maximizing collective capabilities and capabilities.
