The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has nominated former Minister of Economy Muhammad al-Tuwaijri, to take over as Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
The competition for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organization, which faced enormous challenges, increased even before the global economic crisis caused by the "Coved 19" epidemic, before the candidacy was closed in the context of the competition that was accelerated to choose a character to replace the current director of the organization, Roberto Azevedo, the Brazilian diplomat who will leave the position at the end of August, a year before the end of his second term, as eight candidates from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, South Korea and the United Kingdom compete for the position.
The new director will have to revive the frozen trade talks and prepare for the 2021 Ministerial Conference, which is among the most important events organized by the commission, and improve relations with Washington.
Counselor Muhammad Al-Tuwaijri, Saudi Arabia’s candidate for the position of Director General of the World Trade Organization, has a proven record of experience and practical experience, as he held many leadership positions, most notably the position of Minister of Economy and Planning in addition to his membership in the Council of Ministers and the Economic and Development Affairs Council from 2017 to 2020.
