Data released by Qatar Central Bank revealed that the size of the assets of commercial banks in Qatar in January 2020 increased by 12.1 percent year on year, to hit a new record. According to central bank data, cumulative bank assets increased to 1.56 trillion riyals ($ 430 billion) last month, compared to 1.391 trillion riyals ($ 383.45 billion) in the corresponding month of 2019.
On a monthly basis, the assets of Qatar banks increased by 0.72 percent during the month of January, compared to about 1.54 trillion riyals (424 billion dollars) in December of last year. Bank deposits also grew by 2.8 percent to 872.8 billion riyals ($ 240.4 billion) last month, from 849.14 billion riyals (233.9 billion riyals) last December. It is worth noting that about 19 banks operate in the Qatari market, including 7 local commercial banks, in addition to five other Islamic banks. As for the foreigner, it reaches seven branches.
