A report issued by the United Nations Organization revealed that more than 470 million people (about half a billion) around the world are unemployed, or in disguised unemployment, warning that the lack of access to decent jobs contribute to social unrest.
In its annual report on "The Future of Employment in the World and Society", the organization expected that the number of people registered as unemployed would rise to 190.5 million, compared to 188 million in 2019. Indicating that about 285 million people around the world are considered in disguised unemployment, which means that they either work less than they want, or have lost hope of finding a job, or they cannot access the job market. This amounts to about half a billion people and represents 13% of the workforce globally.
"For millions of employees, I think building a better life through work is becoming increasingly difficult," warned the organization's director-general, Jay Ryder, warning that "the continuing and tangible inequality associated with employment and denying some of this prevents many from finding a job Decent and thus create a better future.
