The UAE is the first Arab country in the global prosperity index

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) kept its leading position among Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in the 2019 Global Prosperity Index, published by the London-based Legatum Institute, ranking 40th, up 4 places from 2009.

The UAE topped the Middle East in the Ease of Access to Markets and Infrastructure rankings, ranking 18th in the world with 74.19 points, a benchmark that measures the quality of infrastructure supporting trade and markets for goods and services.

The UAE ranked 20th in the quality of the economy, ahead of countries such as Japan, China, Finland and Spain, which measures the ability of the country's economy to generate wealth sustainably and with the help of a skilled workforce. It also ranked 20th in social capital, which measures the strength of personal and social relationships, institutional trust and civic engagement in a country. In the entrepreneurial standard, the UAE ranked 23rd globally with 77.17 points.
