Tunisia will produce a quarter of its energy output in 2020 through renewable energy projects worth 2.5 billion Tunisian dinars ($835.56 million), Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said. He added that Tunisia will produce 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2020.
"The achievement of these projects, the first of its kind in Tunisia in terms of amplitude, will be able to gradually phase-out the energy deficit and reduce trade deficit level" he highlighted.
Meanwhile, Tunisia's trade deficit hit record high at 19 billion dinars ($ 6.33 billion) in 2018, against 15.6 billion in 2017, the Tunisia's National Statistical Institute said. As for Imports, they rose by 20 percent to reach 60 billion dinars.
