Unemployment in Jordan Rises to 18.6 percent

The unemployment rate in Jordan during the third quarter of this year was 18.6 percent, up 0.1 percent from the third quarter of 2017, according to the Jordanian Department of Statistics.
According to the report, the unemployment rate for males was 16.3 percent, compared to 27.1 percent for females during that period, indicating that the unemployment rate for males rose by 0.9 percentage points and the female drop by 2.8 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2017.
The report showed that the unemployment rate was high among university graduates, reaching 24.1 per cent compared to other levels of education. It also showed that 58.2 per cent of the total unemployed had secondary education and higher, while 41.8 per cent of the total unemployed had less educational qualifications than a high school diploma.
The percentage of unemployed persons according to educational level and gender varied. The percentage of unemployed males with bachelor's degree (undergraduate degree) was 28.4%, compared with 80.1% for females.
