Senator Al-Kabariti, the President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, called on the government to "reconsider the decision to suspend the free trade agreement with Turkey and take into consideration the interest and the protection of the national economy." He stressed that "the commercial sector hoped that the government would re-study the agreement carefully, in line with the interest of all economic sectors, explaining that "everyone stands with the national industry and supports its competitiveness and promotes its products both inside and outside the Kingdom."
He added: "The abolition of the Convention means causing serious damage to traders and companies that have procuration under it, and in this sense, it is necessary to reach understandings with the Turkish government, especially on the negative lists."
Al-Kabariti said that "many commercial sectors will be affected by the decision to cancel the agreement which came without warning as it established its investments, transactions, powers, agreements, and business with Turkish companies according to its terms." He added that the agreement included positive aspects that serve the national economy and consumers.
