Tunisia topped the overall index of commitment to reduce social disparities between classes for 2018 and ranked relatively an advanced rank internationally, despite the erosion of the middle class in recent years. Tunisia ranked 40 out of 157 countries, up 4 ranks from the 2017 ranking, according to a report by Oxfam International in October.
Based on the calculation of the components of the general index, Tunisia ranked 59th in terms of health, education and social security expenditures, while it ranked 17th in the area of collection. According to the labor market index and the minimum wage, Tunisia ranked 50th in the world.
As indicated in the report, the indicator measures the efforts of States to reduce social disparities in three areas: social expenditures that finance public services, such as health, education and social security.
