Inflation in Sudan continued its upward trend since the beginning of this year, recording a record 68.64 percent in September, up from 66.82 percent in August due to the continued rise in food prices, which coincided with currency weakness and rising import costs.
Mohamed Khair Elzubair, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, announced that "the government has put precautions for that, and will introduce new policies to prevent rising inflation."
The governor stressed the government's determination to address the economic challenges of controlling inflation, stability of the exchange rate and the provision of banknotes. He stressed that "the procedures related to the mechanism of market makers that updates the price of the dollar per day are proceeding according to supply and demand. The State has taken all measures to ensure the success of the mechanism, which is proceeding satisfactorily."
According to Sudan's Central Bureau of Statistics, the food and beverage group has the highest rates of inflation in the country.
