The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, inaugurated the Al Haramain Express train with a capacity of 60 million passengers annually, traveling between Mecca and Medina by train, with all comfort, safety, speed, and efficiency.
Dr. Nabeel M Al-Amudi, the Saudi Minister of Transport stated: "The project has been implemented according to the best international experiences to include five stations: two stations in Mecca and Medina, a station in King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh, a station at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and a station in the heart of Jeddah province.
Al-Haramain Express train is considered the first fast electric train in the region. The electricity required to operate the project was provided through six electric power stations along the route, conducting the electric power needed to operate the trains at the highest speed. The project was funded and implemented by the Public Investment Fund, the length of the train route is 450 km and was implemented in three stages.
