Omar al-Bashir, President of Sudan appointed Mohammad Khair al-Zubayr as the New Governor of the Central Bank, replacing Former Governor, Hazem Abdul Qader, who passed away due to a heart attack in Turkey.
Al-Zubayr has previously took over the leadership from 2011 to 2013, and served as the Minister of State for Finance. Zubayr's appointment comes at a critical time during which the Sudanese economy is in turmoil and the country is suffering from a currency crisis, which has left Sudan with the highest inflation rates in the world. It also comes a week after President Bashir discharged the government and appointed a new prime minister and reduced the number of ministries by about a third.
On the other hand, the Central Bureau of Statistics revealed new levels of inflation rates, standing at 66.82 percent in August and 63.94 in July.
