Egypt Invests $15.4 billion to Develop the Sinai Peninsula

Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Egyptian Minister for Planning, Follow-up and Administrative Reform, revealed that Egypt has planned to invest 275 billion pounds ($15.4 billion) in the Sinai Peninsula until 2022, through the establishment of fish farms and the implementation of agricultural, health and road construction projects. She pointed out that "Egypt is seeking to adopt plans for development aimed at creating a boom in certain provinces and areas that have been left behind despite their wealth and potential.”
Dr. Hala Al-Saeed specified, "There is high priority for Sinai Peninsula’s and Upper Egypt’s development which require the preparation of an integrated orientation program for development." She further explained that "one of the most important projects consists in establishing fish farms on an area of 15 thousands and 590 acres in the Suez Canal area, and a natural lake as well as an industrial area in Port Said, and about 10 roads on a total surface of 1339 kilometers.
"The projects also include the construction of a number of housing units, as well as 15 hospitals and health units, 9 of which have already been implemented, in addition to 53 schools, the King Salman University, an educational and administrative Institute along with other projects that will contribute to the development of the Sinai Peninsula ".
